This knife was hand forged in the style of the renowned modern craftsman Hershel House who lives in the small town of Woodbury Kentucky, this is why his work is generally referred to as the “Woodbury Style”. This is my own personal interpretation of his work based on the style and form of some of the knives Hershel has made in the past.

The blade of this knife was hand forge from 5160 carbon steel and hand filed into shape leaving some of the forge and file marks in the blade.

The handle of this knife is made from maple wood that has been hand turned into shape and stained with traditional aqua fortis stain then sealed with multiple coats of linseed oil and beeswax.

The tang of this knife goes all the way through the handle and is peened together very firmly with an iron washer.

This knife measures approximately 16" overall with a blade that measures 10 5/8" and a handle that measures 5 1/4"

This knife comes with a waxed leather sheath that has been made to fit the blade well.

Aqua Fortis is a very old Nitric Acid based wood stain used heavily on gun stocks, furniture, and musical instruments in the 18th century

Woodbury style longhunters knife with lathe turned ball handle

Posted by James York on 5th Jan 2024

I just received my Woodbury style longhunters knife with lathe turned ball handle, I have to say this knife exceeds my expectations. It's a beautifully crafted knife, strong and sturdy and holds a great edge. It shipped really quick and was packaged very well. The blade is a full tang and has absolutely no play in it with the handle which is really nice. I couldn't have asked for a better trekking knife for my 18th Century Living History impression. The sheath is also top quality and sewn perfectly in my opinion. All and all I gave it 5 stars because the craftsmanship and quality is outstanding.
