Marking knives, or striking knives as they are sometimes called, are a traditional way to mark lines in woodworking. The knife line is more accurate than a pencil line plus it cuts end grain fibers making it easier to avoid chipping. This particular knife has a single bevel best used for right handed cuts. The blade was hand forged from 5160 tool steel recycled from the shock springs of an old truck that had been properly hardened and tempered for good edge holding.
