This knife was hand shaped from carbon steel to craft a knife based on 18th century french trade knives. Blades like this would have been common place in the waist belt of a colonial solder or at the dining table of a country house. Working with period tools in a coal fired forge the blade is shaped and laboriously hand filed into its final shape leaving some of the forge and file marks as some of the original pieces had. This interpretation of a french knife has a smooth walnut wood handle that have been sealed with multiple coats of linseed oil and finished with beeswax. The scales have been secured with iron rivets. The tang tapers to the back like the originals which improves balance and preserves metal. This knife would be the perfect gift for the history buff re-enactor or anyone that would like a quality blade.
The blade of this knife measures 8" long with a handle 5" long and an overall measurement of 12 7/8"
The sheath is made from waxed leather and made to fit the blade well.
