The blade of this knife was hand forged from 5160 carbon steel recycled from the coil springs off of an old truck and hand filed into shape leaving some of the forge and file marks in the blade just as some of the originals have.

The handle is made from locally harvested curly birch and stained with Aqua Fortis* to bring out the grain and sealed with multiple coats of tung oil for a more glossy finish.

This knife has an integral bolster forged into the top of the handle that has been decorated with some file work.

The tang of this knife tapers to its base as was done on some 18th century examples. This was done to conserve metal and to make the entire knife a little lighter. The handle is secured to the tang with three copper pins.

This knife has a blade that measures 4 7/8“, a handle that measures 4 1/8“ and an overall measurement of 9 1/8“.

The sheath is made from 8 oz. Waxed leather and made to fit the blade well.

*Aqua Fortis is a very old Nitric Acid based wood stain used heavily on gun stocks, furniture, and musical instruments in the 18th century.
