This knife was hand forged in the style of several surviving examples of French trade knives from the 18th century.

The blade was hand forge from 5160 carbon steel using a traditional coal forge and hand filed into shape leaving some of the forge and file mark's just as some of the originals.

The handle of this knife is made from curly maple wood stained with traditional Aqua Fortis* stain and sealed with multiple cotes of Linseed oil and beeswax. The tang goes all the way through the handle and is peened securely together with a decorative washer.

The sheath is made from waxed leather and made to fit the blade well.

This knife measures 9 1/4" overall with a blade that measures 4 3/4" and a handle that measures 4 1/2".

*Aqua Fortis is a very old Nitric Acid based wood stain used heavily on gun stocks, furniture, and musical instruments in the 18th century.
